Pine Bowls

⇜ Back to Gallery

Whenever I have a scrap of pine board in the right size I quickly turn it into a bowl. They are a cheap way to prototype new designs or test ideas. These are finished with hard wax oil (pigmented white in one case) and have a rougher texture than the ones made of fine hardwoods. Pine is a pleasant wood to work with but bruises easily and tends to show glue lines. As a result, you can see the stacked ring construction more easily in these examples. The walls of these bowls are also a little thicker to accommodate the weaker wood, though they still feel light and airy when picked up.
