Padauk Bowl

⇜ Back to Gallery

This bowl turned out remarkably well considering how many mistakes (lessons) I made while building it. It has enough flaws that I am not willing to sell it, but it servers well enough for a decorative piece in our home. Padauk has a beautiful reddish-purple grain that is pleasant to work in spite of being very hard. It is an oily wood that is tricky to finish. I gave it a coat of linseed oil and it took over two months to try before I hand-polished it with beeswax. The red sawdust made my shop look like a scene from Dexter when I was power carving it!
