"You do realize you're asking me to build five coffee tables here, not one?" I asked my wife. She wanted the ability to pull out four smaller tables to use as end tables or serving tables; they tend to be scattered around our living room at any given time. The main table has crossed mortise and tenon joinery with a half lap in the frame. The smaller tables feature a sort of lapped case mitre joint I had to invent for the purpose. Finished with the same walnut stain as our kitchen island (I had to ask the cabinet maker what he used), and surfaced with wipe-on poly.
